Paterson: Not One Woman an Option For Chief Justice?

Gov. Paterson wants to know why none of the panel nominations s female

Gov. David Paterson is looking into legal options after his judicial options were limited to all men by a recommendation panel.

The governor is upset that of the seven names provided to him as candidates to be appointed chief justice of the highest court in New York State, none of them is a woman, according to NY1. All but one of the seven men are white.

Paterson appeared Wednesday with State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to say that he'd be looking into legal alternatives. Currently, he is limited to the choices provided by the recommendation panel--half of whose members are chosen by the outgoing chief justice and half by the governor.

Ironically, the outgoing chief justice Judith Kaye is a woman. She is required to step down because of her age.
