Florida Shooting Survivor Meets With Long Island Principals Over Walkout Suspensions

A survivor of the school massacre in Parkland, Florida has returned to the New York town where she was born to talk to high school administrators who suspended students for walking out to honor victims of the shooting.

Gwyneth Bishara met Friday with the principals of Massapequa High School and its Ames Campus on Long Island.

Bishara is a sophomore at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Florida and a Massapequa native.

Newsday reported that Massapequa students who stepped out of class on March 14 as part of the national school walkout were served with in-school suspensions for one day.

Bishara said the principals told her the suspensions would not go on the students' transcripts or permanent records.

District officials said earlier that students were being "disciplined appropriately."
