New Yorkers are transforming 30 metered parking spots around the five boroughs into green spaces, performance areas and outdoor classrooms.
The Friday event is part of a global effort called PARK(ing) Day, which raises awareness of the need for public space in urban areas.
Around the city, the meter spaces are being turned into things like mini-parks.
In one space, theater students will be performing works from Shakespeare.
