PATH 33rd Street Line to Shut Down on Weekends for Upgrades

PATH riders who take the 33rd Street line on the weekend will have to look for an alternative.

Weekend PATH service on the line will be suspended from early August through December.

Service will be suspended from 12:01 a.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Monday. Trains between Newark and the World Trade Center and between Journal Square and Hoboken will run as normal.

Direct service will be added between Hoboken and the World Trade Center.

Shuttle buses will be provided and will make stops between the World Trade Center and 29th Street along 6th and 7th avenues.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says the suspension is so that federally mandated upgrades can be made.

Among these is an emergency braking system called Positive Train Control.
