Child Knocks Over Candle, Sparks 3-Alarm Blaze at Upstate New York Apartment: Police

Four upstate New York families were displaced Thursday night when a child knocked over a candle at an apartment building, sparking a three-alarm blaze, police say.

The fire broke out at the building on Walker Street in Walden about 11 p.m., police say. No one was hurt, and the fire was brought under control shortly after 1 a.m. Friday.

The chaplain of the Orange County village’s fire department has taken responsibility for the families, police say, and is looking to find them temporary shelter.
