Oprah Donates $1.5M to Newark Schools

Once again, Oprah Winfrey is extending a helping hand to groups in New Jersey.

This time, the media mogul's foundation is donating more than $1.5 million to five Newark nonprofit schools and organizations.

The grants are among more than a dozen grants being made nationwide.

Those benefiting in Newark are the city's North Ward Center; St. Benedict's Preparatory School; the drug-rehabilitation center Integrity House; a shelter for women and children called Apostle House and the community organization Newark Now.

The donations come a few months after Winfrey pledged $1 million to an educational scholarship fund for students in Whitesboro, the hometown of her longtime boyfriend Stedman Graham.
