Oops! Cops Disarm “Robber,” Spoil Movie Shoot

An actor portraying a stickup man was nearly shot by real police officers responding to what they thought was a real robbery.

Cops were summoned to a convenience store holdup in Bellmore around noon Tuesday, says Nassau County Police Detective Mike Bitsko. When they arrived, they saw a man with a pistol pointing it at a clerk.

Officers disarmed the man, then learned that he was an actor.

Independent filmmaker Fred Carpenter says he thought it was part of the scene until he realized he had not written anything in the script about officers showing up.

No one was hurt and no charges are expected, but police say filmmakers are required to alert them when they are shooting scenes involving gunplay.

The film, "Jesse,'' is about a Nassau County detective.
