Oh, My Eyes! 22 Treated After Student Sets Off Pepper Spray

Angry girl sets off pepper spray in school cafeteria

Nearly two dozen people needed treatment after a girl used pepper spray during a fight with a boy in an upstate New York high school cafeteria, police say.

Nottingham High School in Syracuse was temporarily evacuated Thursday to let the air clear.

Police say the two teens were involved in a scuffle on a bus Wednesday afternoon and the dispute flared again just before 8 a.m. as kids were arriving for school.

At one point, the 16-year-old boy threw a chair at the 15-year-old girl and she set off the pepper spray. Police say both will face charges.

Most of the injured were treated by the school nurse. But a school spokesman says a student and a teacher's assistant were taken to the hospital for additional treatment.
