A retired cop was severely injured in cycling crash during a benefit bike ride for fallen officers in New Jersey, authorities said.
Retired Lt. Joe Franklin suffered a skull and brain injury in the crash during the downhill section of the Police Unity Tour in Edison, New Jersey, on Monday, a police source familiar with the accident told NBC 4 New York.
He was taken to Morristown Medical Center in serious condition, authorities said.
Franklin is a member of the first chapter of the unity tour, which is based out of Whippany, New Jersey, authorities said.
