Cops Arrest Suspect in Failed Salon Heist

Police have arrested an armed man who was thwarted from robbing a Brooklyn beauty salon by an off-duty police officer who was getting her hair done.

Police identified the suspect as 19-year-old Winston Cox. He was arrested early Monday morning. Charges were pending.

Police say the man entered Sabine's Hallway beauty salon on Franklin Avenue just before 6:30 p.m. Saturday and demanded cash and belongings from the customers.

A 50-year-old off-duty officer identified herself as a police officer and ordered him to drop his gun, but the man shot at her and missed and she returned fire, police said.

Police say the suspect fled on foot. No injuries were reported inside the salon.

Cops later followed a trail of blood from the salon to the Lafayette Gardens housing project, the Daily News reported. A search of the building came up empty and there were no arrests last night.

Cox is wanted for questioning in the attempted murder of an police officer, the NYPD said today.

During the melee Jones "was calm and just wanted to make sure no one was hit by the perp," a source told the News.
