Off-duty NYPD cop Andrew Kelly is arrested Sunday after the fatal crash.

A New York City police officer is facing vehicular manslaughter and drunk driving charges in connection to the death of a Brooklyn woman crossing the street to hail a cab, law enforcement officials said today.

Authorities said Veronica Valnords was struck shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday at East 56th Street and Avenue N. She was taken to Kings County Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Valnords, 32, had just left a wedding at the Floyd BennettAmerican Legion hall moments before she was mowed down by the jeep, suffering massive injuries, the Daily Newsreported.

The woman was the daughter of a pastor, and Valnords lived in an apartment above her father's church and devoted much of her time to Bible study and the Haitian congregation's social programs, her friend told the News.

Commissioner Ray Kelly said today there were two off duty cops in the car when it hit Valnords.

The second officer, whose identity has not been released, has not been charged with a crime.

Responding police officers said the thought they smelled alcohol on the breath of Officer Andrew Kelly, who works out of the 68th Precinct in Bay Ridge.
