Of Doggynapping and Key Lime Pies

For most of his last four years with Steve Tarpin, owner of Steve's Authentic Key Lime Pies, Mango sat loyally outside Jake's BBQ and the B-61 Bar in Red Hook, unleashed, but unnerved by passing doggy temptations, "even if they were dragging a T-bone behind them."

But sadly, that's where he was last seen. On Saturday, Nov. 23 around 7p.m., Mango went missing. Steve is highly suspicious of the pup's disappearance, as he notes, "Mango does not leave that corner with the exception of walking half a block in either direction to make his mark".

As expected of New Yorkers, some readers of the Post are scornful of Steve for letting Mango live untethered in this not-so-friendly-for-dogs city. To them, Steve left an intelligent and frank rebuttal in the comments section of the original article (scroll down to view), where he also manages to quote both Dan Quayle and Dog WhispererCesar Milan just five sentences apart.

The 9-year old Jack Russell terrier is a purebred with a patch of brown under his left eye. It's safe to assume that he's been dognapped, so if you see ANY Jack Russell walking around with anybody other than Steve, tackle the perpetrator and grab their dog. No, I'm kidding, don't do that. Just call Steve's Authentic at (718) 858-5333 with the whereabouts and description of the pup.
