Nurse Walking to Car Stabbed in Stomach Feet From Emergency Room

A veteran nurse at a New Jersey hospital was stabbed in the stomach just steps away from the emergency room Sunday evening by a man who demanded money, authorities say.

The Rutgers University Police Department says it is investigating the 7:30 p.m. attack in a campus-owned parking lot near University Hospital on South Orange Avenue. Police said the nurse, identified by her union as a 25-year, extremely dedicated employee at the hospital who is in her late 60s, was walking to her car when the would-be robber approached and stabbed her.

Police say she was able to stumble into the hospital's emergency room, where she was rushed into surgery. Her condition was not released.

The union says it has raised security concerns with management in the past. It says it will address the concerns again at a pre-scheduled meeting to be held Tuesday.
