Buried in a mega post on hotel buzz at NewYorkology (data point: average NYC room rate rises to $350 a night) is a link to floorplans of yesteryear: Above, the basement of the West Side's faded yet proud Hotel Pennsylvania, circa 1919. Pennsylvania 6-5000 seems to have been swinging between the alternate fates of wrecking ball and renovations in recent months. But lo, two weeks ago, they went to the trouble of trumpeting a redesigned website. Won't you make up your mind, Vornado? In the meantime, imagine a time when a night at the hotel, once considered the largest in the world, cost you $3.50 -- note the decimal point -- and offered such amenities as a "silver polishing room."
