Most of the tri-state was spared from significant snowfall overnight as an intense spring nor'easter expected to batter New England slid by, forecasters say, but powerful winds are expected to whip over the region Wednesday.
Snow showers began Tuesday evening for most of the region and lasted until early Wednesday. Most areas didn't see much more than a light dusting, but forecasters said parts of Long Island and the Jersey Shore were expected to get up to 3 inches.
The most intense parts of the nor'easter stayed out over the ocean as the storm moved by, forecasters say. Coastal areas in New England and Canada are expected to get walloped by the storm.
The storm will leave behind chilly temperatures and whipping winds, forecasters say. Wind advisories have been issued for most of the tri-state Wednesday, with gusts potentially reaching 50 mph.
Temperatures should rebound quickly, with highs hitting the 50s again by Friday.
Since the start of December, 57.4 inches of snow have fallen in Central Park, making this the seventh snowiest winter on record. The official first day of spring was Thursday.
