Sloppy Days Ahead as Nor'easter Winds Through Tri-State

Residents and commuters in the tri-state area are in for a soggy couple of days as a slow-moving nor’easter winds its way through the region, Storm Team 4 says.

The storm, which has been dumping rain from the Jersey Shore to New York City, Long Island and upstate New York since early Wednesday is expected to hang around through Thursday evening, dumping up to 7 inches of rain on some parts of New Jersey and 1 to 2 inches on other parts of the tri-state area.

The most severe weather was forecast for Wednesday morning. Storm Team 4 says the system will weaken throughout the day, but light to moderate rain will hang around through Thursday.

Storm Team 4 said rainfall totals Wednesday morning have ranged from nothing north of the city to between 2 and 4 inches of precipitation in Ocean County, New Jersey.

Because the rain will be moderate for most of the storm, the ground will absorb most of the water and prevent flooding, forecasters say. But some streets and urban areas in New York City and New Jersey could be waterlogged from time to time, especially during heavier periods of rain.

It is also forecast to be windy, with gusts of up to 35 mph along the coast. Temperatures are expected to be below average, with highs in the mid-50s.

Storm Team 4 says the skies will begin to clear Friday, though some isolated showers are possible.

The system is forecast to completely move out of the region by the weekend, with sunny skies and balmy temperatures in the 60s drying out the region.
