No Free Tolls for You: Port Authority Curbs Perks

No more free tolls for Port Authority of New York and New Jersey board members and retirees.

All nonunion employees hired after the Sept. 11 attacks will also have to pay tolls at the Holland and Lincoln tunnels and the Outerbridge Crossing, Bayonne, Goethals and George Washington bridges.

The Star-Ledger of Newark reports the decision is expected to save about $1.5 million a year.

The agency says it will end the perk for all employees by 2014.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has criticized free tolls at a time when government is asked to do more with less.
