A judge has ruled that a defense expert in the trial of a New Jersey woman accused of killing her 8-year-old daughter cannot testify that she was brainwashed by a religious cult.
Thirty-four-year-old Krisla Rezireksyon and her roommate, 27-year-old Myriam Janvier, have pleaded not guilty to murder in the death of Christiana Glenn.
Authorities said that Glenn was severely malnourished and had a broken leg when she was found dead May 22, 2011 in the family's Irvington apartment.
Rezireksyon's attorney argued his client was under "delusional spells" due to her pastor's teachings.
NJ.com reports a judge said last week that testimony about her being brainwashed can't be used at the Oct. 26 trial due to a lack of factual evidence. An expert can testify that Rezireksyon was mentally ill.
