Judge Calls Newburgh “Most Pathetic Place in the State of New York”

Officials in a Hudson Valley city aren't amused that a Manhattan judge has deemed their hometown the "most pathetic" place in New York state.

U.S. District Court Judge Colleen McMahon made the comments April 15 while sentencing a member of the Bloods street gang for a 2009 slaying in Newburgh, according to News 12 Hudson Valley.

McMahon said the main industry in Newburgh is selling drugs, then added: "Newburgh is the most pathetic place in the state of New York."

Newburgh Mayor Judy Kennedy called the judge's comments unfair and offered to give her a personal tour of the city.

Newburgh has been plagued by drug-related violence, resulting in law enforcement crackdowns on gang activity in the city in recent years.
