Police in New Jersey are searching for a suspect who allegedly stole a rental car in Newark, collided with a state trooper's car, and then fled, authorities say.
The suspect stole a silver Monte Carlo from the Alamo car rental company on Routes 1 and 9 in Newark at about 6 a.m., according to state police.
A state police detective located the suspect nearby, and while trying to apprehend him in his state trooper vehicle, collided with the suspect in the Monte Carlo, police said.
The suspect got away and ditched the stolen car near South 11th Street and 9th Avenue in Newark.
The detective was taken to UMDNJ to be treated for his injuries, police said.
