Police have charged a Newark man in a shooting inside a city restaurant that killed one person and injured two others.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office says 32-year-old Mark S. Melvin of Newark is charged in the death of 39-year-old Fuquan Mosley, also of Newark.

Police say Melvin entered L.C.'s Place restaurant in Newark Thursday around 10 a.m. and began shooting.

The victims were taken to University Hospital, where Mosley was pronounced dead at 11:09 a.m.

A 42-year-old man is in critical condition. An 81-year-old woman, who was working at the restaurant, sustained a non-life threatening injury.

Melvin faces murder, assault and weapons-related charges. A second man was detained and arrested on unrelated warrants.

Melvin is being held on $1 million bail. It's not clear if he has an attorney.
