Prosecutors: 2 Killed in Separate Newark Shootings

Two people have been shot to death in New Jersey's largest city, but authorities say it's not clear if the separate shootings are connected.

Essex County prosecutors say the shootings in Newark both occurred late Wednesday night.

The first occurred around 9 p.m. on Mapes Avenue, when a person was gunned down on the street. The next occurred about an hour later in the area of 18th Avenue and Alexander Street, a little more than three miles away from the first shooting scene.

Further details on the shooting were not disclosed, including what types of weapons were used and how many assailants may have been involved in either shooting. Authorities say the motives for the shootings remain under investigation.

No arrests have been made.
