Separate Newark Shootings Leave 2 Dead: DA

Authorities say there is no link between the shootings, which both occurred early Sunday, but motives have not been determined

Two shootings in Newark have left two men dead and another wounded.

Authorities say there is no link between the shootings, which both occurred early Sunday, but motives have not been determined.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray says the first shooting occurred shortly before 1 a.m. on Harding Terrace.

City police responding to reports of shots fired found 21-year-old Kendal Spear and another man had been wounded. Spear later died at a hospital, while the other man — identified only as a 21-year-old city resident — was being treated for wounds that were not considered life-threatening.

The second shooting occurred shortly after 4 a.m. on South 19th Street. Officers found 28-year-old Shamone Gugliemini of Newark outside a home, and he was pronounced dead there a short time later.
