Police say a man found fatally shot on a Newark street early Thursday was under indictment in the shooting death of a toddler two years ago.
The Essex County Prosecutor's office says Wakir Bryant was found fatally shot around 1:00 a.m. in Newark.
The 29-year-old Newark resident was out on bail, following his indictment in June 2012 on several counts, including reckless manslaughter, in the death of 2-year-old Mikhy Robinson.
Prosecutors say the child died after being shot in the mouth Dec. 30, 2011, in a Newark apartment.
Police say Bryant drove Robinson and the child's mother to a nearby hospital, where the baby was pronounced dead.
Arguments were held Tuesday in Trenton on Bryant's attempt to get the indictment against him dismissed. The court has not yet ruled.
