Elderly Woman Dies in Newark House Fire

Investigators are looking into what caused the fire at 34 Bellair Pl.

An elderly woman died in a house fire in Newark Friday evening, officials said. 

Firefighters responded to a call at 34 Bellair Pl. at about 6:45 p.m. and were able to put out the fire at the single-family, two-story home within a half-hour, according to Newark Fire Captain John Brown. 

The elderly victim was found on the second floor of the home, Brown said.

A firefighter suffered burns to his hands and was transported to St. Barnabus Medical Center in Livingston.

Investigators are looking into what caused the fire, which has severely damaged the home, officials said.
