1,500 Gallons of Heating Oil Spilled in Yonkers: Officials

A truck delivering heating oil to homes in Westchester County sprung a leak Saturday and spilled more than 1,500 gallons of the fuel, state environmental authorities say.

The truck was delivering oil in Yonkers when it sprung a leak, according to the state Department of Environmental Conservation. The oil seeped into storm drains and eventually made its way into the Bronx River at Bronx River Road and 226th street.

Crews were flushing out drains on Monday and using absorbant lines to pull oil from the water.

It could be several days before the cleanup is complete.
