Teens Wanted in Violent Candy Bar Robberies at NYC Newsstands

Police are looking for a group of teenaged robbers they say hit a pair of Manhattan newsstands, stealing candy bars, e-cigarettes and cash earlier this month.

About six or seven teens between 14 and 16 years old robbed a pair of newsstands on the Upper West Side on Dec. 18, according to the NYPD.

In the first heist, at Broadway and West 93rd Street, the suspects took candy and e-cigarettes. Another teen allegedly punched the clerk in the head and stole cash from the register.

About 30 minutes later, they hit a second stand at Broadway and West 67th Street. A couple of the teens took three candy bars while another grabbed a drink bottle and chucked it at the clerk. The 51-year-old victim had a gash on his right eye when police arrived.

Surveillance video from one of the stands shows the teens grabbing candy bars as they walk by the newsstand.

Anyone with information about the robberies should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
