Schumer: Ban 3-D Printers from Making Guns

Sen. Charles Schumer is pushing for a law to ban 3-D printers from making weapons.

At a news conference on Sunday, Schumer displayed a photo of a plastic gun made by a Texas company with a 3-D printer.

Schumer said the plastic guns can fire real bullets and could easily be made by anyone with a 3-D printer and an Internet connection.

“We're facing a situation where anyone — a felon, a terrorist — can open a gun factory in their garage, and the weapons they make will be undetectable,” Schumer said. “It's stomach churning.”

Schumer said his bill would not restrict 3-D printers for other manufacturing uses.
