One World Trade Center to Be Lit Up in Mets Colors Before World Series

The view of the lower Manhattan skyline should be more amazin’ than usual Tuesday night.

That’s because the 408-foot spire atop One World Trade Center will be lit up in blue and orange in honor of the Mets, who will play Game 1 of the World Series against the Royals in Kansas City, Missouri at 8:07 p.m, Gov. Cuomo’s office announced.

“Tonight, the spire atop One World Trade Center will be a symbol to the Amazins in Kansas City that New York stands with them as they set out to reach the zenith of the fall classic,” Cuomo said.

Cuomo, who will be at Tuesday night’s game at Kauffman stadium, has also placed a friendly wager with Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon on the series.

If the Mets win the series, Nixon will have to wear a Mets jersey to work for one day, and will have to send a basket of products from the Show-Me State to Cuomo.

If they Royals win, on the other hand, Cuomo will have to don Kansas City garb and will send Nixon bagels and Italian sausage.

It’s not clear if the Empire State Building will be illuminated in Mets colors ahead of Tuesday’s game. The building was emblazoned with orange and blue for about 15 minutes on Wednesday, when the Mets capped off a sweep of the Chicago Cubs to clinch a berth to the Fall Classic. The midtown skyscraper's spire had been illuminated in blue in honor of an NYPD officer who was shot and killed earlier that day.
