Would-Be Robbers Dress As UPS Workers, Try to Force Their Way Into Long Island Home: Police

Police say they’re looking for two men who posed as UPS delivery men and tried to rob a homeowner on Long Island.

The men, wearing dark brown jackets, walked up to the home on Henrietta Place in Hewlett at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday carrying cardboard boxes and rang the doorbell, according to Nassau County police. The homeowner was suspicious of the men and told them to leave the packages at the door, but the suspects said they couldn’t deliver the boxes without a signature.

When the homeowner unlocked the door, the men unsuccessfully tried to force their way in.

The would-be robbers then ran away from the home, jumped in a car parked at a nearby school and left the scene, police say.

Anyone with information about the men is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
