Crooks Dress as Repairmen, Install Skimmers on ATMs on Long Island: Police

Police are looking for the crooks they say have been dressing like repairmen so they could install skimmers inside ATMs at stores across Long Island in recent months.

Skimmers have been installed at four King Kullen supermarkets in Garden City park, Massapequa Park, Rockville Centre and Franklin Square in August and September, according to police.

Video obtained exclusively by NBC 4 New York shows the faux repairmen strolling by customers and security at one of the stores before installing skimming devices inside the ATMs, leaving them unnoticeable to the naked eye.

Authorities think that the scammers somehow got ahold of a key that opened all the store's ATMs. They added that the suspects usually returned about a week later to get the data collected by the skimmers.

King Kullen said in a statement that it has shut down all ATMs in its system and is working with police in the investigation.

Police, meanwhile, said that anyone who used the ATMs should check their bank statements for irregularities.
