Virus Infected Thousands of Government Computers on Long Island

Suffolk County says it has successfully contained a virus that affected thousands of government computers.

Newsday says the problems began Friday and persisted into Tuesday. The virus was spewing unwanted, bogus messages.

A spokesman for County Executive Steve Bellone says an update installed by the technology department also will prevent reinfection.

Experts have concluded that the virus originated from an attachment that an employee received and spread to other county computers.
