Bronx Man Punched, Raped Woman on Christmas Morning: NYPD

A Bronx man has been accused of punching a 51-year-old woman in the face, dragging her into a secluded area and raping her early on Christmas, police say.

Jose. Roys was arrested on rape, robbery, criminal sex act and assault charges after the attack at about 6:20 a.m. Thursday in Pelham Parkway.

Roys’ arrest comes about a day after police say that a 51-year-old woman was waiting for a bus on Boston Post Road when the attacker approached and tried to start a conversation. The woman walked across the street, and the suspect followed, officials said.

The suspect then punched her to the ground and dragged her behind a building, where he raped her, police say.

The woman was taken to the hospital after the attack.

The suspect ran away, but police say the man was spotted on surveillance video around the time of the attack smoking a cigarette.

Police told NBC 4 New York that Roys turned himself in at an NYPD stationhouse in the Bronx at about 4 a.m. Friday. It's not clear if he has an attorney.
