4 New York City Burritos Among America's Best: Report

When you think of burritos, you might think of the tasty, monstrous Mission-style creations common at restaurants on the west coast. Or, maybe you think of Moe's and Chipotle.

But according to a new list released by the food blog The Daily Meal, the Big Apple has burritos that best some of the best-known California taquerias.

Four New York City restaurants were named among the site's top 35 burritos for 2015, according to the site.

The carne asada burrito at Dos Toros was named the tops in the city and was named No. 10 in the nation. The site commends the restaurant for melting a thin slice of cheese to the tortilla to serve as a base, saying the chain's 8 locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan "do their west coast roots proud.

Another popular New York City chain, Calexico comes in at No. 12 on the list. The pescados burrito at Essex Taco on the Lower East Side comes in at No. 24, while the spicy pork burrito at Taqueria Tlaxcalli in the Bronx rounded out the city's best burritos and was ranked No. 27 in the nation.

The ranking was created by 40 so-called “burrito experts” who voted on a list of more than 130 burritos, which were nominated by fans and experts alike.

The top burrito ranked on the list was the Bean and Cheese from Tito’s Tacos in Los Angeles.

Rounding out the top five were the California burrito from Nico’s Mexican Food in San Diego, the Carnitas from La Taqueria in San Francisco, the Green Chile from The Shed in Santa Fe and the Chile Relleno Burrito from La Azteca Tortilleria in Los Angeles.
