Funeral Set for Upstate New York Boy, 5, Found Slain After Missing Report

Funeral services are set for this weekend for the 5-year-old boy who was killed while living with relatives in upstate New York.

Calling hours for Kenneth White will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Riley Mortuary in Amsterdam, where his mother lives. His funeral will follow at the mortuary.

Authorities say the boy died last Thursday after being beaten and strangled in his aunt's mobile home in the rural town of Knox, just west of Albany.

Police have charged his 19-year-old cousin, Tiffany VanAlstyne, with second-degree murder.

Officials say she covered his body with snow after tossing him into a culvert near the home, then called 911 and claimed the boy had been abducted by men in black ski-masks. An Amber Alert was issued in three states for the boy.

A police K-9 unit found Kenneth's body.

Authorities say VanAlstyne's mother had legal custody of the boy.

Kenneth's mother lives elsewhere in New York and his father lives in Massachusetts, Apple said. Neither parent is the person being questioned by detectives, he said.
