NYPD: No Specific Threats for NYE in Times Square

Police expect a record crowd.

Police are expecting a record crowd in Times Square on New Year's Eve, when the weather is expected to be only moderately cold and Lady Gaga will join the mayor for the countdown to 2012.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said authorities are aware of "no specific threats" but will have  officers out en masse throughout the city for various celebrations.

That includes a new class of officers that just graduated from the Police Academy. Saturday will be the first deployment for those 1,550 officers, Kelly said.

Bloomberg said he is looking forward to meeting Lady Gaga for the festivities, calling her a talented entertainer.

The forecast for the midnight ball drop is 38 degrees and partly cloudy. The high on Saturday is expected around 45 degrees.
