Brooklyn Man Killed in New Year's Hit-and-Run

Hours later, another man was killed in a hit-and-run on Long Island.

A man picking up party supplies for New Year's Eve was killed by a hit-and-run driver, the NYPD says.

Police say 34-year-old John Cook was struck and killed as he crossed Rockaway Parkway in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn at 1:55 a.m. Sunday.

Police are looking for the driver of a blue Nissan Maxima.

Richard Lane, who was at a New Year's Eve party with Cook, told the Daily News  that his friend went to the store to get some beer and cigarettes.

Cooke was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Meanwhile, police are investigating a separate New Year's hit-and-run that happened on Long Island.

Suffolk County police say a man was struck and killed in Huntington Station at about 7:35 p.m. Sunday. Authorities say the driver fled the scene.

The accident occurred at New York Avenue and East 20th Street.

The investigation is ongoing.
