New Seaport Ice Rink Faces More Delays

8,000 square foot skating space still set for Pier 17

Seaport Ice, the new skating rink that was supposed to open at the South Street Seaport right after Thanksgiving, has been delayed, a spokeswoman told the NewYorkology travel blog.

An "unanticipated production issue” was to blame, she told NewYorkology.

Signs at the South Street Seaport's Pier 17 still tout an early December opening for the 8,000 square foot ice rink. However, work on site has not begun and no firm opening date has been set.

The rink has been scheduled top operate at the Seaport for seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. through February 28. Admission will be $5 with an extra $7 for skate rental.

Plans also call for a 3,500 square foot Skating Pavilion Lobby, a tented warming area with lockers and a snack shop.
