A 39-year-old woman died and two other people were hurt, one of them critically, in a high-speed Porsche chase that ended in a four-vehicle crash in New York over the weekend, authorities say.

Cops in Lloyd, a small town in Ulster County near New Paltz, got a call about an erratic driver of a 2008 Porsche Cayenne around 7:30 p.m. Sunday. They say they found the vehicle and tried to pull the driver over, but he tried to elude them, driving off westbound on State Route 299 at a high rate of speed.

New York State Police joined the pursuit. It wasn't clear how long the chase went on, but state police say that the Porsche hit the side of a Ford as it approached South Street, then crossed into the eastbound lane and hit a Ford pickup head on. A 2016 Toyota then hit the back of the Porsche.

The violent crash spewed tires, chunks of metal and other debris over multiple lanes of the road and completely obliterated at least two vehicles. Footage from the scene showed the front of an SUV that had been rendered wheel-less by the crunched up like an accordion. A gaping hole bordered by shards of glass filled the space where the windshield had been.

The woman driving the Ford pickup that was hit head-on, Danielle Pecoraro of New Paltz, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 24-year-old passenger in her truck was taken to a hospital in stable condition. The 29-year-old driver of the Porsche involved in the initial chase, Ryan Williams, of Poughkeepsie, has been hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Criminal charges are pending.
