Student Registration Centers Open Tomorrow for NYC Schools

The New York City Department of Education announced today that 12 registration centers for new students will open on Wednesday, August 31st. They will remain open five days a week from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m through Friday, September 16. They will be closed on Labor Day.

Any high school student who is new to the school system, or re-entering after an absence, needs to register in their home borough.

New or re-entering general education elementary and middle school students without a zoned school should also visit a center in their borough. Those students who have a zoned school must register in that specific school by September 8th.

And those new and re-entering students who require special education placements need to register at the Special Education enrollment sites assigned to their home districts.

Parents must accompany their children to a center, and bring two of the following documents to prove residence:

o A residential utility bill (gas or electric) in the resident's name and dated within the last 60 days;
o Documentation or letter on letterhead from a federal, state, or local government agency indicating the resident's name and address and dated within the last 60 days;
o An original lease agreement, deed, or mortgage statement for the residence;
o A current property tax bill for the residence;
o A water bill for the residence dated within the last 60 days;
o Official payroll documentation from an employer dated within the last 60 days, such as a form submitted for tax withholding purposes or payroll receipt (a letter on the employer's letterhead will not be accepted);
