  • Each borough will get three to five new buses each week until all of the new buses are rolled out

The first of many new and improved MTA buses for Manhattan and Brooklyn have arrived, Gov. Cuomo announced Tuesday.

The two boroughs each received three new buses, equipped with Wi-Fi and USB charging ports. Three to five will be added each week in Brooklyn until all 86 new buses are in service by the middle of October. In Manhattan, three to five will be added until the year’s end when the borough will see 79 new buses in service.

The new buses rolling out are part of the revitalization on the MTA’s bus operations with more than 2,000 buses joining the fleet over the next five years, according to Cuomo.

"These new, state-of-the-art buses will improve the standard of service for countless commuters and will help ensure the continued viability and reliability of the MTA’s bus fleet for years to come," Cuomo said in a statement.

The first 75 new buses went into service last year in Queens and the first of 83 new buses arrived in the Bronx in March.

The new buses will also feature bus operator partitions and cameras to enhance safety for drivers and passengers.

"In today’s ever-evolving world of technology, it is critical that we meet the demand for enhanced connectivity through a superior mass transit system - these buses are an important step forward in bringing the MTA into the 21st century," Cuomo said in the statement.
