New Lion Cubs Hit the Bronx Zoo

Their favorite game? Wrestling

The Bronx Zoo is roaring with the debut of three lion cubs in its African Plains habitat.

The trio, born to mother, Sukari, and father, M'wasi, is the second litter delivered at the zoo in three decades. Their older sister, Moxie, was born in November of 2008.

The cubs, two females and one male, were born on January 27 weighing in at five pounds each. Now at about 25 pounds, the three are said to be very active and curious- their favorite game, wrestling.

"Our new cubs are a wonder to observe," said Jim Breheny, Director of the Bronx Zoo. "After a visit with these cubs you can't leave without appreciating the wonders of wildlife even more."

Even though the cubs were born in January, they have yet to be named. The Bronx Zoo is asking the public to submit their suggestions for cub names by the May 8 deadline. Once the list of names has been wittled down to the best ones, the zoo will ask the public to vote for their favorites beginning May 16.

The group can be spotted with their mother and father at the habitat from 10 a.m. to 1p.m. daily.
