It's not clear what caused the crash

A woman died and four people were seriously injured when a New Jersey Transit bus and a minivan crashed near a toll booth on the Garden State Parkway Tuesday evening, officials say.

The bus, which was carrying no passengers, and the Ford minivan crashed near Exit 159 in Saddle Brook, N.J., at about 7:30 p.m., according to NJ Transit.

The driver of the bus was not hurt.

State Police Sgt. Brian Polite told The Record the van swerved into the lane the bus was in, struck the bus and rolled over.

The Garden State Parkway was closed in the area for a time while police investigated.
