1 Dead, 1 Badly Hurt When Tractor-Trailer Flips on I-95, Snarling Traffic to George Washington Bridge

An accident on Interstate 95 in northern New Jersey snarled traffic for hours Friday and left one person dead and another seriously injured.

State Police spokeswoman Trooper Alina Spies said a tractor-trailer and an SUV were involved in the crash just before 5 a.m. Friday in the northbound lanes in Ridgefield Park. The truck overturned.

Spies said the truck driver was killed. His name has not been released. The driver of the SUV was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, he said.

Chopper 4 footage from the scene showed the overturned tractor-trailer blocking all of the interstate's express lanes. Debris was strewn into the median and local lanes, and several emergency vehicles at the scene blocked all but one local lane.

Express lanes remained closed through the morning, causing major traffic delays, but by Friday afternoon all lanes had been reopened.

The accident remains under investigation.
