New Jersey Priest Accused of Uploading Child Porn to Chatroom

A Roman Catholic priest from New Jersey has been charged in Pennsylvania with uploading child pornography to an internet chat room.

The Rev. Kevin Gugliotta of Mahwah is charged with 20 counts of possession of child pornography and 20 counts of dissemination of child pornography. He was arrested last week in Toms River, New Jersey, and is being held pending extradition to Pennsylvania.

Wayne County District Attorney Janine Edwards said Wednesday the images were uploaded from an internet address registered to Gugliotta in Gouldsboro, Pennsylvania.

The Archdiocese of Newark said in a statement that the images were uploaded from his personal laptop at his vacation home and that there were no similar allegations in Union, where he is the parochial vicar at Holy Spirit Church.

The archdiocese said in a statement that Gugliotta was removed from the ministry and ordered to vacate his most recent parish assignment after it learned of the allegations.

Gugliotta's attorney, Jim Swetz, says it doesn't appear investigators recovered the device Gugliotta allegedly used. Swetz added that the priest will "vigorously" defend himself.
