New Jersey Lawyer Charged With Stealing $1 Million From Clients

A northern New Jersey attorney has been charged with defrauding dozens of former clients of more than $1 million, including his brother.

The Record reported that Louis A. Capazzi Jr., of Harrington Park, was ordered held at the Bergen County Jail in lieu of $700,000 bail on Thursday.

Superior Court Judge Liliana S. DeAvila-Silebi entered a not guilty plea on Capazzi's behalf after cautioning him against speaking in court.

Bergen County Assistant Prosecutor Brian Lynch says that Capazzi took money from more than 50 clients and didn't provide promised services. Prosecutors say that includes $600,000 from his brother.

Capazzi was placed on inactive status due to disability in June by the state Supreme Court.

Lynch says he anticipates filing additional charges against him.
