2 New Jersey Families Tied Up, Robbed in 1 Week: Police

Two families in a New Jersey township were tied up and robbed during two separate home invasions in less than a week, police say.

The first happened last Monday in the Oakwood section of Old Bridge, when at least two robbers held up a family at gunpoint inside their home, according to police.

"They come into the house, they have handguns, they gather up the family, bring them all into a different room and they demand money," said Old Bridge Police Captain Robert Weiss.

While the family was restrained, the suspects gathered up cash, computers and small electronics.

Six days later, the robbers struck again, this time in the Country Place neighborhood, according to police.

"This type of thing has never happened in our neighborhood before. It's usually pretty safe," said Matthew Thomas, a neighbor of the victim.

The home invasions have families in the area on edge, and Thomas said he's installed new locks on their backyard gates, front door and sliding back door, despite the robbers breaking down locked doors in the two cases.

Police do not have a description because the men were wearing face masks and gloves. They're continuing to investigate.
