A new federal government analysis of federal health insurance exchanges finds that New Jersey residents have higher premiums than others, and higher costs after subsidies.
The Health and Human Services Department analyzed the 36 states where the federal government took the lead in setting up the insurance markets.
Across the country, people who are getting coverage through the plans are paying an average of $82 monthly in premiums after subsidies. In New Jersey, that figure is $148, the highest in the nation.
The pre-subsidy cost in New Jersey is $465. Both that amount and the average subsidy of $317 are among the highest.
