Man Arrested in New Jersey Boarding House Stabbing

A man has been arrested for allegedly repeatedly stabbing a 52-year-old man at the New Jersey boarding house where the two were staying, authorities said.

Police had been looking for Alexander Kerton, who's been living at the boarding house on Morris Avenue in Elizabeth, since the stabbing last Thursday. The victim was hospitalized in critical condition.

Police also were called to the house Friday, and found a 67-year-old man stabbed to death, but Kerton only faces charges in the nonfatal stabbing at this time, prosecutors said.

Police say he's considered a person of interest in the homicide. Authorities are also investigating him in connection with the armed robbery of a city bus earlier this month.

Kerton was arrested late Monday and charged with aggravated assault.

Kerton is being held at the municipal jail pending arraignment. Information on an attorney for him wasn't immediately available.
