Suspect in Bright Pink Wig Robs New Jersey Bank at Gunpoint: Officials

A suspect wearing a bright pink wig and white boots robbed a New Jersey bank at gunpoint in a brazen heist Wednesday morning and made off with more than $100,000 in cash, police and a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation tells NBC 4 New York.

The suspect walked into the Glen Rock Savings Bank in Glen Rock around 10 a.m., pointed a gun and demanded cash, officials say. The robber ran away after stealing what is believed to be a substantial amount of cash.

Surveillance images from the bank show the robber pointing a large gun at a teller.

"The employees were very scared, but they followed bank procedure and did what the suspect asked them to do," said Glen Rock Police Chief Fredrick Stahman.

Search crews were combing the area for the suspect, who was wearing sunglasses and a black coat and carried a large purse. Police found the apparent gun from the robbery ditched in a snow bank on a residential street about a block away from the bank.

The search slowed down some NJ Transit train service in the area.

The heist came as a shock for Glen Rock, a small town with minimal crime. One former customer at the branch told NBC 4 New York recalled a teller once telling her, "We'll never get robbed because we're behind two train tracks."

The FBI is assisting in the investigation.
